Bruno's Contracting (Thunder Bay) Limited is a heavy civil construction group with over forty years’ experience in heavy civil construction, road building, asphalt paving, materials production, and demolition. We are currently welcoming applications for a full-time Quality Control Laboratory Technician capable of fulfilling the following requirements:

JOB DESCRIPTION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct laboratory and field tests of soils, aggregates, and various hot mix asphalts. 
  • Complete testing in accordance with MTO, OPSS, City of Thunder Bay, CCIL, and ASTM standards and procedures
  • Assist in completion of routine lab inspections and certification testing 
  • Perform various soils testing, including - proctor density, and optimum moisture.
  • Perform various aggregate testing, including - wash pass, sieve analysis of coarse and fine aggregates, percent crushed, asphalt coated particles, contamination, flat and elongated particles, etc. 
  • Perform various hot mix asphalt and specimen testing, including - AC content, gradation, Marshall Mix Properties Superpave Mix Properties, core compaction testing. 
  • Accurately record testing results in internal testing databases and materials charting files for various aggregate sources 
  • Communicate and coordinate with management and field staff regarding testing results 
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with all company manuals and procedures 

SKILLS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience with laboratory and field testing of aggregate and hot mix asphalts is an asset 
  • Knowledge of various aggregate types and products 
  •  Proficiency with math and Microsoft Office product suite is a requirement
  •  Ability to lift and manipulate 50lb material samples 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Valid Class G driver’s license. 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Post-secondary education in materials engineering is an asset, but not required
  • Former or current certification in asphalt/aggregate testing is an asset
